February Celebrations

This month is National Grapefruit Month! Check out some of these interesting Grapefruit facts in celebration of this holiday:

 

— When found, it was named the “forbidden fruit.”

— Grapefruit trees can reach 25 to 30 feet tall.

— A single grapefruit tree can produce more than 1,500 pounds of fruit.

— Grapefruits are hand-picked, no mechanical harvesting is used.

— A grapefruit is 75% juice. One medium grapefruit will give you 2/3 of a cup of fresh-squeezed juice.

— Fresh grapefruit come in several colors including pink, red, white and golden.

 

Make these delicious Pink Grapefruit Bars from The View From Great Island in celebration of this holiday. These sweet bars are great to serve at a dinner party at your apartment. To make them you’ll need the following ingredients: whole wheat flour, brown sugar, unsalted butter, eggs, zest of a grapefruit, Ruby Red Grapefruit, sugar, a lemon squeeze, baking powder, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, red food coloring, and powdered sugar as a garnish.

National Bagel Day (February 9th)

Will you be visiting The Cup to celebrate National Bagel Day this year? The Cup is a great place to get a delicious bagel. “It takes a village to fill The Cup. Featuring coffees from Alliance World Coffee and Chauvin Coffee Company. Bagels made in house fresh daily!” The Cup is about a 12-minute drive from The Haven. Happy National Bagel Day!

Bath bombs are a great gift to give to a loved one. This can be a gift you make at home or one that you can purchase. LUSH has a great variety of bath bombs to give as gifts. You’ll need baking soda, citric acid, sea salt, cornstarch, your choice of oil, witch hazel, vanilla extract, and an essential oil to make it.

President's Day (February 19th)

We suggest going to see Early Man this month. It comes out in theaters on Friday, February 16.
