December Celebrations

Write a Friend Monthperson wearing a sweater writing on a stack of papers

Letter writing may seem like a thing of the past, but that’s not true! Receiving something other than junk or bills in the mail can brighten anyone’s day, so do what you can to bring that joy to a loved one’s life by sending a letter. Whether it’s a holiday greeting card or a simple update about your life, it can be an opportunity to bond with someone, whether they live a few cities over or across the world.

Upcoming Holidays

This month, we are bringing residents ways to celebrate National Brownie Day on December 8th. Try one of these brownie recipes at your apartment, or check out a local bakery here in Muncie.

“Super fudgy, moist brownies topped with a layer of sweet peppermint frosting, covered in a layer of soft chocolate ganache, then sprinkled with crushed candy canes to dress them up for the holidays. These Peppermint Candy Cane Brownies are perfect for any party.”

Super Fudgy Brownies from The First Year

Super fudgy brownies pair perfectly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. These super fudgy brownies can be made with all-purpose flour, salt, unsweetened cocoa powder, unsweetened baking chocolate, butter, sugar, vanilla, and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Poinsettia Day (December 12th)a bunch of poinsettias next to a mini tree with ornaments

Pick up a poinsettia to decorate with this holiday season. The Flower Expert tells us “The bright petals of Poinsettias, which look like flowers, are actually the bunch of upper leaves of the plant, called bracts. Poinsettia flowers are small, green or yellow, and grow inconspicuously in the center of each leaf bunch.” These are great plants to brighten up your apartment during the holiday season.

Movie Suggestions

For a night in at your apartment, we suggest watching a classic holiday favorite like While You Were Sleeping (1995), Elf (2003), It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), or The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). If you’re in the mood to go out to a movie, we suggest getting your tickets online in advance. These are a few of the movies coming out this December.

Mary Queen of Scots

“Mary Stuart's attempt to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England, finds her condemned to years of imprisonment before facing execution.”

As the family seeks refuge in a remote haven where they can wait out the invasion, they start to wonder what kind of world will remain when they're ready to emerge.”

Mary Poppins Returns

“Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael's children through a difficult time in their lives.”
